Fizz RCS: unlimited texting is now required

If your Google Messages app suddenly says "RCS chats have been disabled by your carrier", you are not alone. Since late September 2026, a growing number of Fizz members have reported on r/FizzMobile and the Fizz Community Hub that RCS chat features were switched off on lines that don't include unlimited texting. New reports were still coming in this week, as late as October 23.

Fizz has now confirmed the change officially. In short: to use RCS on Fizz, your mobile plan must include unlimited texting.

What Fizz officially said

In an official Community Hub post published on October 14, 2026, Fizz explained:

  • check_circle In September 2026, Fizz updated its network integration to improve compatibility between Android phones and iPhones (RCS works on iPhone since iOS 27).
  • check_circle The migration fixed what Fizz calls an "access issue" that let some customers use RCS even though their plan did not include texting.
  • check_circle RCS is tied to the texting option. It is not a separate service in Fizz plans.
  • check_circle The migration is being rolled out gradually, so not every line loses RCS on the same day.

The official Fizz RCS FAQ now lists these prerequisites:

Requirement Details
**Plan** A mobile plan that includes **unlimited text messaging**, plus mobile data or Wi-Fi
**Phone** A compatible phone and a compatible OS version
**App (Android)** An up-to-date Google Messages app
**iPhone** Supported since the release of **iOS 27**

Speaking to MobileSyrup, Fizz said the FAQ wording changed "to reflect the capabilities of our new RCS platform, which now allows for communication between Android and iOS," and that "the updated version of the platform ensures reliable delivery of the feature in accordance with the customer's plan." Fizz gave iPhone in Canada a similar statement.

Who is affected?

  • check_circle Affected: Fizz members on plans without unlimited texting who were using RCS anyway, mostly Android users on lean data-only or low-cost plans.
  • check_circle Not affected: Members whose plan already includes unlimited texting. If RCS broke for you even though you have unlimited texts, it is likely a regular RCS glitch. Contact Fizz support.
  • check_circle iMessage is not affected: iPhone-to-iPhone iMessage runs on Apple's service, not on carrier RCS.

What you lose when RCS is off: typing indicators, read receipts, high-resolution photos and videos, group chats over data, and RCS messaging with iPhone users. Your messages fall back to plain SMS/MMS, which also requires a texting option to send.

Why members are frustrated

Many members say they got no direct notice before RCS was turned off, sometimes in the middle of a billing cycle. Reported on MobileSyrup and on r/FizzMobile:

  • check_circle Some members filed complaints with the CCTS (Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services), pointing out that Fizz's service agreement promises 30 days' notice of changes for mobile.
  • check_circle MobileSyrup reported (update of October 5, 2026) that Fizz objected to at least one CCTS complaint, arguing that RCS is delivered through the third-party Google Messages app over an internet connection and falls outside the CCTS mandate. The CCTS still has to review that objection.
  • check_circle Results from support vary. Some members say an agent re-enabled RCS. Others got a temporary credit or a free texting add-on while waiting for a plan change to take effect. Your mileage may vary.

How to get RCS back on Fizz

  • 1. Check your plan: Sign in to your Fizz account and open your mobile plan. Look for unlimited texting.
  • 2. Add unlimited texting: If it's missing, change your plan to include the texting option. Members report that the change applies at the start of your next billing cycle, so do it early.
  • 3. Re-verify in Google Messages: Open Google Messages, then Settings, then RCS chats (or *Chat features*), and make sure the toggle is on. Wait until the status shows Connected.
  • 4. Still stuck? Restart your phone. If RCS still won't connect after your new cycle starts, contact Fizz support through the chat in your account.
  • 5. On iPhone (iOS 27): Go to Settings, then Apps, then Messages, then RCS Messaging and confirm it's on. See our iOS 27 Wi-Fi Calling & RCS guide.

Also coming: Fizz Visual Voicemail app for Android retired on November 13

Separately, Fizz has posted a notice on its Visual Voicemail FAQ: starting November 13, 2026, the Fizz Visual Voicemail app for Android will no longer be available.

  • check_circle Your voicemail stays active. No action is required.
  • check_circle After that date, Android members can use their phone's built-in visual voicemail feature, if their device supports it.
  • check_circle iPhone users are not affected: visual voicemail is built into iOS (Phone app, then Voicemail tab).
  • check_circle Tip: if you rely on saved messages in the Android app, listen to them or share the audio files you want to keep before November 13.

Summary

Fizz's new RCS platform brings RCS between Android and iPhone, but it also enforces a rule many members didn't know about: RCS now requires unlimited texting. The rollout is gradual, so if your RCS still works without unlimited texts, it may not for long. Check your plan, add unlimited texting before your next billing cycle if you want to keep chat features, and note that the Android Visual Voicemail app goes away on November 13, 2026.
